Zaatar, the best kept secret of Middle Eastern cuisine; a mixture of aromatic herbs and spices, very present in Arab and Persian cuisine, and which has as many combinations as mothers boasting of their own secret recipe.
Officially, Zaatar mainly mixes thyme with other spices such as: oregano, sumac, black pepper, cumin, lemon and toasted sesame seeds, and is characterized by its fresh and herbaceous flavor with slightly acidic touches, which are usually mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, until obtaining a paste to spread on pita bread.
It is also often used as a condiment, for salads, vegetables, roasted meats, fish and a long etcetera
DO Zaatar, is our tribute to that oriental cuisine, historically so present in our gastronomy, which we have combined with DO Arbequina, resulting in a fresh, very aromatic oil full of nuances that we encourage you to try on any traditional recipe and of course on good toasted bread.
And for those of you who are a little more daring, we have prepared another version of Spicy Zaatar, to which we have added a good amount of our “Malnacio” Habanero Infused Oil, which will provide a very interesting intensity.
